Re: World Weightlifting Championships

Holiday Town Parade Eira Roberts2.jpg Hi Peter I had a further look in my records and can confirm that Patrick McNee was a presenter of Holiday Town Parade but not for long. Also the first showing of HTP was in 1956 not 1958 as I initially said. The 1960 Colwyn Bay venue, on the Victoria Pier, is s...

Re: World Weightlifting Championships

Holiday Town Parade.jpg Hi I can remember going to a few of these venues -57 years or so ago notwithstanding. Many of the resorts were along the North Wales coast so easy from Chester. Looked in my scrapbook and clipping from Colwyn Bay event in July 1960 -attached herewith. If fading memory serves...

Re: W. A. Pullum Patent Barbell

Jack Starz Wrestler & Powerlifter.jpg Hi Peter Glad you liked the Ivy Russel article, a powerful woman for her day. Guilty as charged m'lud over the Antiques Roadshow. So much of the 40 minutes filming cut away though. I mentioned buying the set for £5 -equates to about £100 today from a fellow lif...

Re: W. A. Pullum Patent Barbell

Hi Dannyboy

It seems that having TB in days of yore was an incentive to become strong -ref not only WAP but also this lady, Ivy Russel on the Pullum cambered biggi bar .

Apologies if you've already seen this article.

Regards.

Did this on-line commentator have a point about WAP's list of records or was he being a tad harsh?

Re: W. A. Pullum Patent Barbell

Holker Hall Cumbria July 2016.png Hi Dannyboy You may find this of interest. Two caveats however. The BBC saw fit to pare down 40 minutes of filming down to just a few minutes hence the dialogue is a bit disjointed and ancillary info has gone. Also because the film crew would not permit a tiny 'Pum...

Re: W. A. Pullum Patent Barbell

CWLC 50 Pounder Disc.jpg Hello Tom Thanks for your interest and super contribution. I love the old photos -but would not have guessed it was Bill Pullum but then I have only seen photos of him in his books. Did any of the Pullum bars you've previously seen have the 'handwheel' outer collars? -this ...

Re: W. A. Pullum Patent Barbell

Hi Again DannyBoy I managed to get in contact with Roger Davis by a convoluted route and he very kindly sent me some tidbits about the Pullum Bar Patent. Ref the drawing shown here, the sizes are:_ c [inside collar] = 63mm* d [brass handgrips] =127mm e [outside brass spacers] =200mm f [middle brass ...
