I have just heard the news that long time martial arts teacher Vince Black passed away suddenly on February 26th 2019. Vince was one of the top instructors of Chinese internal arts in North America and resided in Arizona. His early training was in the eclectic style of Kajukenbo with direct teaching from the founder Adriano Emperado.Vince began his Xing Yi training with John Price and then became a direct student of Price's teacher Master Hsu Hung Chi, a relationship lasting for 10 years until master Hsu passed away. While training with master Hsu he engaged in intensive training in Taiwan several times and also learned traditional bone setting from Hsu.After his teachers death he sought out high level masters in mainland china with a focus on Ba Gua Zhang and Xing Yi Chuan. Some of his teachers were Li Zi Ming, Liu Wan Fu and Wang shu Sheng among others, all highly regarded masters in China. Besides Chinese martial arts Vince also studied Chinese medicine extensively both in academic settings and privately with some of his Gung fu teachers. In 1990 he formed the North American Tang Shou Tao association, a non-profit organization with mission to preserve, research and disseminate traditional Chinese martial arts and medicine in North America. Vince was a big strong man held in high regard by his peers and students and he leaves a big void in his community. Condolences to his family and friends.
