Colin's Feldenkrais Log

Post by colinkbell » Mon Jan 09, 2017 12:11 am

Thought it might interest someone somewhere if I log my journey. I am repeating the Bruce Holmes 48 lesson CD. It's called Feldenkrais Lessons Awareness Through Movement.
8th Jan 17
Lesson 2 Flexion.
Used electric blanket as floor was cold. Flexion based lesson, lasted approx 30 mins. By the end I noticed walking much taller, feet gripping floor more and breathing more free.

Googled Feldenkrais and this image came up with the caption Feldenkrais with
Magic Johnson . In fact the iconic hoopster pictured is Dr. J the great Julius Irving .
What must have the old master thought after witnessing Julius in flight . He could
dunk a basketball after taking off from the foul line on the court .I saw him do it in
Philly and also witnessed Mike Jordan do it in Chitown . If I ever get up your way
Colin , I'll show you how it's done ...on a 5 foot basket !

Nice find Chris. Yes with his background in Judo, Moshe had a lot to teach athletes.

Fri 13th Jan
Lesson 3 Flexion, spine like a chain. I was surprised to discover that initially I couldn't seem to perform a leg lift. And I was amazed as usual at the results during and end of lesson in terms of increased spinal mobility and walking/ standing posture.

Sun 15th
Lesson 4 Posture. This was to discover ideal posture by experimenting. And by end I was moving more on toes- Tommy Kono would be proud. And my neck feels like it has been greased. Powerful stuff.

Hi Colin, i was wondering if the Feldenkrais work may also help with your breathing being as the nerves in the upper spine affect the lungs and diaphragm.
Regards, Peter.

Hi Peter. Yes part of the scans are to notice breathing. And often I have found breathing more free. There is a lesson to come on breathing.

Lesson 5 of 48 Pelvic Clock
Wed 18th Jan
Did Pelvic clock and also foot and neck clock. Found them difficult enough to do together, and impossible to do them in opposite directions. I genuinely think more and more that I have some slight learning difficulty that hinders me from learning opposites. Whether it is acids V alkaline, male V female words in language, people with similar names, treble and bass clef, bar and body in opposite directions in jerks, I really struggle.

Lesson 6 of 48 Heel Circles Tues 24th Jan
Found something stuck in mid spine and also right hip. But by middle of lesson these let go. And by end my ribs were more free, breathing softer, spine freed up. And walking is totally amazing, can really feel hips moving independently. A mentally tiring lesson, but astounding results.
