training Log Forum 2019

Post by peter yates » Tue Jan 22, 2019 9:46 pm

I Thought it was time to bring the training log into 2019. I was going to post my Birthday workout yesterday but had no internet access, so here it is today.Just coming back from a back strain, so did not squat, DL or BB press for almost a month. Coming back slow and steady but moving along nicely. After a couple of light tester sets the noted sets were done until the next rep would have been iffy. At this stage in the game i have no desire for training related injuries, so the last rep of each set i do should always be as clean as the first, though quite a bit harder. Each set has a weight increase.
Jan 21,2019. Age 68, B/W 165.
Squat 1x22, 1x17,1x12,1x7.
Press 1x12,1x10, 1x8.
BB row 1x12,1x10,1x6 alternated with
BP 1x20,1x15,1x10.
Parallel grip bar hammer curl 1x12,1x10,1x8 alternated with
TPD on gin wheel pulley 1x15,1x12,1x10.
Back raise,roman chair sit up,ab wheel rollout 20 each x 2 rounds.
Delicious, home cooked, Chinese meal to follow.
Regards,Peter.

Happy Birthday! Cheers!

I worked on bench pressing this evening by doing 10 sets of 3 with a shoulder width grip and 6 sets of seated cable curls on my Total Gym. Gonna switch over to a Sheiko bench pressing routine come Monday as I've burned out on the Smolov routine! I think I was able to eke out every last possible ounce of strength on it! I was doing the Smolov routine since early December, so almost 8 weeks on it. It worked great!

The Sheiko routine, though a few more sets are involved, doesn't have the higher weight percentages, but when it does, there's less volume, less reps on it though still maintaining the intensity to be be useful.

The bench routine I'm working on now is from Pavel Tsatouline's Beyond Bodybuilding. Lots of pressing, lots of overall volume, minimal movements. Its mainly benching, but has assistance work like pressing overhead and dips (but I'll sub out pushups on my still rings in lieu). Benching on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with over head pressing on Tuesday and Saturday. So far so good. The volume is very controlled. What I'm doing is making sure that my "max" is at least 10 pounds below my actual max to calculate the working weights. That way I don't get into trouble from the get go by starting out too high in weight.

I'm also getting my "cardio work" in there during the week in the form of kettlebell swings after the bench pressing. We'll see has this routine pans out. I may or may not have to make adjustments here and there.

Monday
Leg Press
to 670-kilos x 8 reps

SSB Squats
I made a right meal of this. Too busy BS'ing with the boys before the last set. So I go back to the rack and bottomed out on the pins on rep 1. Embarrassed and annoyed (plus 2 girls were adjacent) I gritted my teeth and monstered it back up and then ground out another 7 reps (8 total when I'd wanted 6). So
145-kilos x 8 reps

Seated Leg Curls
to stack +5.5p x 20 r/p reps

Leg Extensions
to stack x 20 r/p reps

Bwt: 298lbs

An audience of any kind but more so if it's female lol

Tuesday
Two Hand Pinch
Equ (27.7kg) x 20 reps, 57.7-kilos x 20 reps, 84.95-kilos x 10+10* reps in about 60-seconds
*The pause will be re-chalking and a few steps away. Slowly adding weight and the 2x10 is a good sign too
