United States Presidential Elections 1960 onwards

Post by Harry Hayfield » Mon Feb 27, 2017 11:28 pm

The starting date of 1960 for this history of Presidential elections takes on board the fact that 1960 was the first election when the states of Alaska and Hawaii (having been admitted to the Union in 1959) were able to cast ballots for the Presidency.

Presidential Election 1960
John Kennedy / Lyndon Johnson (Democratic) 34,220,984 votes (50%) winning 303 electoral votes
Richard Nixon / Henry Lodge (Republican) 34,108,157 votes (50%) winning 219 electoral votes
Other Candidates who failed to win electoral votes 503,341 (1%)

(The Duke of Dunstable, Patience by Gilbert and Sullivan)
