Dave Gentle passed away

Hi All

It is with deep sadness I am announcing the Dave died this morning at 9:05.

It was in hospital and was peaceful with his wife and daughter with him.

Dave had suffered an aneurysm of his aorta.

I have lost an inspiration, a mentor but most of all my best friend.

Rest in Peace Dave

This is devastating to hear. Same as Paul, to me David was above all a dear friend and one who i will miss very much. His legacy will continue on though with the vast body of work he created. First Ron and now David, two of the most knowledgeable Physical Culture historians in the world and two of the nicest blokes you could care to meet.Sincere condolences to his wife Rosemary,his family and his many friends throughout the world.Rest in Heaven my dear friend.

This is devastating - utterly devastating... can't even talk about this at the moment- a vital man like this gone?? This is absolutely unbelievable - we only communicated the other day too. I'm so, so glad I sent over a Vintage Strongman t-shirt to you my friend - hope you were wearing that on your last day... absolutely tragic, and my heart goes out to Rosemary... David, a larger than life character and self-confessed rogue (in the best of all senses) loved by all and always will be in our memories. I miss you already mate...

It is with deep sadness that I join you all in your heartfelt sentiments about David. He was the best of the best, a wonderful friend and an extraordinary historian.
Blessings to Rosemary and David's family and friends during this incredibly sad time.

That's sad news. I never met the guy but he was always digging up information or happy to send spare magazines from his collection. He was happy to help anyone who had the same passion for physical culture
