Hi Rachel,
while Sandow's barbells are rare they are not much in demand by collectors in the same way that his grippers and expanders are. I believe my friend Tom Balchin, who actually does collect them, has made you an offer. You may want to consider selling to him as he is relatively close to you. However if you continue with the auction Tom will be there at the end,
Regards,Peter.

Hello,Thankyou for your advice,I’m not expecting to get a lot for it but I have had a few offers and it wouldn’t be fair to other people to end the auction early.I will be happy as long as I’m not expected to help lift it into a car.

Hi Rachel, totally understand. I am sure the collectors are all gentlemen and will do the lifting. :D Could you tell us something about the Barbell? Where it comes from, who owned it previously etc?
Regards,Peter.

Hello Peter,
My husband does house clearance and it was in the garage with lots of other very old weights. The gentleman he was doing the job for said they were either his dads or grandads,my husband can’t remember which, the man was in his 60s then and this was about 8 years ago.He said his dad/grandad was a Jewish wrestler but we can’t remember his name.I believe Eugen Sandow did knock about with lots of Jewish people including a wrestler but I can’t say it was him or not.I might be able to go back through my invoices to find his sons name.
Thankyou for your interest,Rachel

Hi Rachel,
It is good to know that these articles are still out there. It is the same here in the states were things are found in old barns or house clearances etc. There is a very active collectors group over here. Thank you for the information you posted and i would guess it would be the man's grandfather to fit the time line. Not to say the father did not use them though. If it would not be too much of an imposition, finding the gentleman's name would be a boon for us on the site as we are always looking for any information about Sandow and his associates. While he is probably the most widely known of all the old time strongman there is still much unknown about him.Personal details can fill in the blanks. What happened to the other weights by the way?
Regards,Peter.
