I was going through the Strongman Videos area of the "Features" section, and there's many great videos that I hadn't seen before. British Pathe really has uploaded a treasure trove of strongman videos (amongst other videos) to YouTube.

With that said, I wanna inquire about one of the strongmen featured in some of those videos; Saxon Brown (who's actually the strongman in the picture used both in Diane's post above & on the forum index page for this "Videos of Old Physical Culturists, Strongmen & Bodybuilders" section).

^Those are the three videos from the Strongman Videos area on this website and I also found four more videos featuring Saxon Brown that were uploaded to YouTube by British Pathe as well:

And I also came across another video of him on British Pathe's website, which I've not been able to find on YouTube. I can't embed this video, so here's the link to where it can be viewed: http://www.britishpathe.com/video/secre ... ous-young/

Anyway, I've looked him up as 'Saxon Brown' as well as with his first named spelled 'Saxson' (with an 's' after the 'x' as it is in some of those videos), but I really haven't been able to find out much about him. I've come across a few posts regarding him on a couple of ancestry forums (including one apparently by his daughter) with some contradicting information, a post about him on the Oldtime Strongman blog, and then not much else. Apparently Saxon Brown's birth name was Henry Brown, he was born in 1904 or 1905 (probably) & passed away in 1952, and I've seen him referred to as 'Britain's strongest youth' & 'the world's strongest young man'. He may have been the first to pull a bus with his teeth. It seems that Saxon Brown was something of a celebrity in Great Britain before WWII. That's about it....

So I'm wondering if anybody here (David? Peter?) is familiar with Saxon Brown and if they have more info on him?? Thanks. :)

^LOL! Well I can't really disagree with you on that David because Saxon Brown certainly wasn't one of the more impressive looking strongmen there ever was physique-wise, but heck, I'm sure someone like Louis Cyr looked just like a big fat man to a lot of people. Though of course that's not to say that Saxon Brown was anywhere close to being as strong as Louis Cyr was (I don't think for a second that he was). Anyway, don't ask me why I have this interest in and was inquiring about Saxon Brown, because I'm not entirely sure myself, lol. I think it was probably the picture that's in Diane's original post above and on the forum index that first intrigued me for whatever reason....
