I hadn't see that footage before a couple days ago, but wow, Doyle Kenady made that 903lb deadlift look so easy! That was his best official deadlift, but in watching it I would imagine he was capable of lifting more. So out of curiosity, does anybody happen to know what Doyle's personal best deadlift may have been?

Jon Cole recounted in Ironman that Doyle had one glorious training
day where he pulled 850 for 4 and after a rest pulled 920 in singlet
& belt . Never a strap in sight . Raw basic training on mostly the 3 lifts.
Lots of singles per session . Drank gallons of milk and eat up to 5 lbs of
hamburger every day . He was a bear and a very very nice man .

Impressive! I read something Fred Hatfield wrote about when Doyle Kenady did the 903lb deadlift; Doyle actually requested a 4th attempt and went for 920lb on that day but he missed it because he had to follow himself, so essentially because of the rules he had to make that 920lb attempt before he was even close to being adequately recovered from his 903lb deadlift. Anyway, 'bear' is certainly an apt way to describe Doyle Kenady and what an awesome beard he had!

One of my favorite lifters, and yes, what an epic beard!
