Mancunian Acquisition

Postby Handson » Thu Aug 09, 2018 2:35 pm

I recently bought a Reg Park barbell set that had an interesting provenance.

It had been owned and used by one of the bodyguards to comedian Bernard Manning at his Embassy Club in Manchester.

In case a reader has not come across Mr Manning [1930-2007] or his style of humour [ergo the bodyguards] their curiosity may lead them to try an example on Youtube such as the 57 minute "Bernard Manning -Ungagged" rendition.

However, snowflakes and/or wives [unless of the Billingsgate Fish Market variety] are hereby warned.

I saw Bernard Manning on a couple of occasions in the 1980s and was aware of falling into the trap of going to the toilets during his rendition and thereby attracting a salty broadside from him though I'm sure one or two likely lads got up deliberately to wind him up!

But I digress; the equipment is in fine condition, reasonably priced and the journey was worthwhile and 'interesting'.

Because few of the houses in the vicinity bothered to have house numbers it was fortunate that it was bin collection day so I was able to go by the numbers on those treasured possessions!

Hi Peter
I assume you mean pics of the gear and not BM?!

I'll try to get some pics but not immediately as the disks are gracing a leg-press in my middle lad's garage.
I never took them out of my trailer at home -they are under something else he blagged from me at the time -my Bal Ami Juke Box!

Regards
