I read today, via Ray Nobile, about the passing of one of the great Scottish strongmen,Jim Moir.He passed away in Hospital in Canada where he had lived since the late 1960s. Jim was a true all rounder in the old tradition. Scoring highly in Bodybuilding, Strand pulling, Gymnastics, All round lifting and the Strength set. When Powerlifting was born he again excelled at that. In 1980 he won the IPF world championships in the 67.5kg category, making in the process world records in the squat 275kg and total 727.5kg.Those records held from 1980 until 2011.Besides being a fellow countryman he holds a special place in Ray's heart as it was Jim who inspired him to take up Powerlifting.May he rest in peace and condolences to friends and family.
